Towards Free Choice and Market-Oriented Schools
The purpose of this report is to give an overview of the symposium on the topic of free choice and market-oriented schools, which was held in Stockholm in 1992.
Sammanfattning 2: The main theme of this report is "Toward Free Choice". The Swedish National Agency for Education and the Institute of International Education, Stockholm University, hosted a symposium on the topic of free choice and market-oriented schools in 1992. The purpose of this report is to give an overview of the symposium, summarize the discussions that took place, and to provide a forum for the papers presented. Most of the implications of free choice and market-oriented schools are still not known. Among the many possible implications discussed in the symposium it was suggested that further social segregation may occur, parents may feel they have even less influence over the local schools, and more social tension may arise due to the multitude of ideologies and religious beliefs imbued in the teaching of independent schools. Most of the unanswered questions and issues were listed in the previous section. What is obvious from these is that further research is required if the implementation of these reforms is to be carried out smoothly and with the expected outcomes.
